Thank you for a memorable and relaxing experience! Akito, who came from a long line of tea farmers, made the whole thing feel so personal and authentic. Walking through the beautiful tea fields, learning how the leaves are grown and processed, and interesting tea facts gave me a whole new appreciation for tea. Akito let us try different types of tea and even taught us what gives tea its umami, astringency, sweetness and bitterness. I left with some amazing tea and a newfound respect for the craft. So glad I did the tour!

Exceeded our expectations. Mijo was a wonderful host and being in a Japanese home made it that much more special. So fun and easy making the mochi and the tea ceremony was amazing. It was intimate and informative. After going through a traditional ceremony we then got to make our own matcha tea. Loved every minute.

Akito is very knowledgeable and professional. He showed us a local farm and explained the leaf picking process. At the factory, he explained the tea production process. We tasted tea prepared different ways, and we gained understanding of what made the teas so different. It was a very educational and enjoyable tour. The view from the mountain was incredible!

Shizuoka Tea Farm Tour with Factory Visit and Tea Tasting

Despite the rainy and foggy weather, Akito-san was capable to light up our day! He picked us up at the station and let us have a small tour of the tea plantation (we just discovered the Camelia plants bloom in November!) explaining all the details of the harvesting (timing, methods, etc). Later we had a tea tasting session right inside the farm were the tea leaves are dried and rolled. Akito-san explained every detail from the tea refinement process to the chemical composition and how it might influence the taste. The very informal environment made us feel like home and it was such an amazing experience thanks to our host kindness and availability. Akito-san is very knowledgeable and definitely an expert in the tea sector: he was able to answer any question we might have (and we had many...thanks for the patience!). I won’t go in the details to avoid spoilers, but everything was both delicious and interesting. If you’re into tea (or just into exploring and learning), take this opportunity to discover this remote location and what the (japanese) tea actually is. We are tea lovers and we already knew more than a thing, but it turned out that we were missing huge pieces of the picture. Totally worth the money; the landscapes, the information and the tastes will be an highlight of our 3-weeks trip. Note: Akito-san definitely speaks a very good English!

Explore the Delicate World of Wagashi

If you have a penchant for sweets and a desire to delve into Japanese culture, our Wagashi food tours are an unmissable opportunity. Wagashi, traditional Japanese confections, are not just desserts but a form of art that has been refined over centuries. These exquisite sweets are crafted using a variety of ingredients such as mochi, anko (sweet red bean paste), and fruits, each designed to reflect the season and delight the senses.

As you embark on a Wagashi food tour, you'll have the chance to visit various artisanal shops and charming tea houses where these delicate sweets are made. Experienced guides will lead you through the intricate process of Wagashi creation, offering insights into the history and cultural significance of each type. Whether it's the delicate cherry blossom-shaped sakura mochi in spring or chrysanthemum-shaped kinton in autumn, you'll learn to appreciate the beauty and craft that goes into each treat.

Hands-On Wagashi Experiences

Our tours not only offer a chance to taste these delightful confections but also provide hands-on experiences. You'll have opportunities to craft your own Wagashi under the guidance of skilled artisans. This interactive aspect of the tour is perfect for those who love to get creative in the kitchen and offers a fulfilling way to understand the nuance involved in making these sweets. From kneading the delicate dough to crafting intricate designs, you'll walk away with both great memories and newfound skills.

The joy of creating Wagashi is enhanced by the cultural practices that accompany it. Traditionally served with matcha, a type of green tea, Wagashi is more than just a snack but part of a culturally rich tea ceremony. As you make your own Wagashi, you will also learn the importance of presentation and etiquette in Japanese tea culture.

Discover Unique Wagashi Varieties

Japan's regional diversity is beautifully captured in its Wagashi offerings. Each area boasts its own unique varieties that showcase local ingredients and cultural quirks. On your tour, you'll explore these regional differences and understand how geography influences the sweets' flavors and designs. From the rich, nutty flavors of chestnut-filled kuri manju in the north to the sweet potato blended imo yokan in the south, every stop on the tour offers a different tasting experience.

These tours are perfect for those exploring a dietary interest or seeking an authentic cultural journey through taste. Whether you're a seasoned traveler or new to Japanese confections, our Wagashi food tours provide an enriching and delectable experience. Allow yourself to be immersed in the world of Wagashi, where every sweet bite is a story and tradition waiting to be discovered.
