I know the world of truffles well. I harvested them for a long time at home, and when I learned that there were some in Crete, I was intrigued. To be honest, at first I told myself that it must be another one of those tourist traps and that there was little chance of having a truly authentic experience. I was wrong! Nikos and Eleni made us feel like family. The dogs were wonderful and enthusiastic. We found many truffles. The food Nikos and Eleni prepared was delicious. Nikos's honey was exceptional. It is well off the beaten path, but absolutely worth it. The Rouva forest was gorgeous. The company of Nikos and Eleni was excellent. They are proud of their culture and heritage and they should be. We had a tremendous time with Eleni, Nikos, and Moscha-Anthi. After an early start travelling from the south of the island to the north, we spent a truly memorable day in their company. We were fortunate to be part of a small group—just four of us in total—which made the experience feel very personal. The drive to the location was exciting and unexpectedly steep, offering incredible views. What an amazing and intimate local Cretan experience! I highly recommend. Nikko is such a talented and lively spirit and his daughter Elina was just so very informative and sweet and the combination of the two just made you feel like you had some Greek family by the end of the day! Wonderful food and drink made by the two of them! Wonderful experience with even more wonderful people (Nikos and his daughters not forgetting the dogs). The setting and the views are amazing and kind of out of this world. The breakfast with the bee products (honey, pollen and even gelee royale) was a nice start of the trip. The truffle pasta combined with homemade olive oil and wine made for a perfect ending.
