My friends and I were fortunate enough to have the experience of cooking with Auntie K. Her place was conveniently located in Accra and we were greeted with a warm welcome. We were asked to meet at 10 a.m. and I am grateful that she chose that time because it can get a bit warm cooking over an open flame in the peak heat of the day. So I arrived a day later in Accra, was more jet-lagged from the extra day of travel, and had trouble getting oriented. All of this did not matter to Auntie K, who patiently took it all in stride with a wonderful sense of humor. She lives Akwaaba! The food was amazing, and the companionship was even better. I really connected with her and she was up and taking her cooking and her passion for food and community.
