We had a great time exploring the market with Hiro! It was interesting to learn about his "day job" and he took us to several great spots, including the basement of the department store where locals buy their lunches. Only noting that we stopped at one store and were told everything should be fine for our dietary restrictions, but I checked ingredients when I got home and one sauce had beef & pork in it. We should definitely have checked and do not expect Hiro to know every ingredient in all the packaged goods in the market! Just advice to future travelers to translate everything!

Hiro was a great guide for Nishiki market and the surrounding areas. He was able to navigate our special diets and we tried lots of things. He’s a marine biologist so can tell you a lot about seafood as well as Kyoto culture and traditions

My tour with Hiroshima was excellent. He was very easy to talk to and very knowledgeable about the food in the market as well as the surrounding area. There are many few tasting spots in the market that I may not have tried without his guidance.The food we bought was delicious too. Thank you.

Punctual, helpful, and a Dodger’s fan!!! Building rapport with Hiro is as easy as counting 1, 2, 3, and we started talking like we were long, lost friends. He brought us to Nishiki Market and explained his heart-out, gave great tips on places to avoid, and where to find great prices. Prior to visiting Japan, family member had requested I bring back some food option… while on tour, I reached out to confirm but due to time difference, I waited for a response. Hiro was kind enough to wait and we started chatting about baseball, and the Dodgers. In the end, he brought me to a few places and I bought what I needed. It was a fun experience and would recommended taking the food tour with Hiro! He won’t disappoint!

Hiroshi was absolutely charming, approachable and informative. He was able to gauge the individual persons knowledge and imparted information about the market and general area clearly and articulately. I cannot praise his efforts to make our tour enjoyable. I would definitely recommend Hiroshi as a great guide.

I’m so glad we went with Hiroshi through the market. We tasted more and learned more than we would have just walking through on our own. We did not leave the tour hungry. Hiroshi recommended a restaurant for dinner and even made a reservation for us. Dinner was amazing too.

What a great morning with Hiro! We spent the morning exploring Nishiki Markets. Hiro understood our dietary requirements perfectly and lead us to shops where we could sample foods we liked and could eat. We had sweets, pickles and even tried sake! Hiro took lots of photos which he immediately sent to us. He gave us confidence to go back to the markets and buy food for our lunch. Hiro was welcoming and informative. My wife and I recently attended a halal Okonomiyaki cooking class in Japan, and it was an exceptional experience. The hosts were incredibly patient and kind, taking the time to explain the recipes in detail and answering all of our questions with enthusiasm. The selection of dishes we cooked was not only delicious but also complemented each other perfectly (Aji fish ball soup, okonomiyaki, and matcha pudding desert). What made the experience even more special was the warm and homey atmosphere of the class, which immediately put us at ease. We were grateful that the host opened her home to us, creating a welcoming environment where we could learn and cook comfortably. We were lucky to have a solo class experience. Moreover, the care and attention to communication prior to the class were outstanding and truly highlighted the host's commitment to providing excellent service. We felt well-informed and taken care of every step of the way through the multiple emails sent to update us on the cooking and the directions. Overall, this halal Okonomiyaki cooking class was a memorable and enjoyable experience. The hosts' patience, kindness, delicious dishes, and cozy atmosphere made it a fantastic opportunity to learn and immerse ourselves in Japanese cuisine. We highly recommend this cooking class to anyone looking for an authentic and enjoyable culinary experience in Japan outside of the usual restaurant hopping.

Easily our best tour of our Japan trip! This is a must do. We travel often and have done many tours from Portugal, France, Korea, etc and I just say this was by far the most personal, fun, educational, intimate tour! It was like having a friend show you around! Thank you Shinji!
