Bruce is delightful and a font of knowledge! The food was delicious and plentiful, and it was a fun and entertaining evening. The only reason I have dropped a star is the cost. I think it is a pricy food tour, having done many in various cities around the world. This shouldn’t discourage you from experiencing Bruce’s experience and conversation, and the delicious tatami food, if you are happy paying this price.

Bruce was amazing. So knowledgeable and friendly. We did a tour with him on our first night in Japan and it was like going out to dinner with a friend. A great experience. I would highly recommend

Unforgettable night of yatai hopping with Bruce! ★★★★★ Our yatai food hopping tour was a highlight of our time in Fukuoka. Our guide Bruce was fantastic: relaxed, knowledgeable and clearly well connected with the stall owners. We started at a yatai run by a chef who's been cooking there with his wife for 35 years, now joined by their son. We had a comforting winter dashi broth, gooey bacon-wrapped rice cakes grilled to perfection (I could have eaten twenty), and noodles tossed on the grill plate and topped with bonito flakes. At our second stall we had our first ramen in Japan, lighter and cleaner than at home, paired with a citrus and honey beer, plus pork belly and chicken yakitori, a surprisingly tender, spicy beef tendon stew and hand-made gyoza. We even ended up chatting with some lovely locals sitting across from us. Bruce thought of everything, finishing the night by dropping us at the Ritz-Carlton rooftop bar and arranging our taxi home. Great food, great company and a real taste of local life. Highly recommend!

We had such a great evening with Bruce! He was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us so much interesting information throughout the tour, while also sharing his own experiences and stories, which made everything feel much more personal. Bruce took us to three different Yatai spots, explaining the places, the food, and the culture along the way. The food he chose for us was amazing, and we really enjoyed every stop. We could have happily continued to more places, but unfortunately we weren’t feeling well enough to keep going. Beyond his knowledge, Bruce is simply a genuinely nice and fun person to spend an evening with. The whole experience felt relaxed, friendly, and authentic. We would absolutely recommend Bruce to anyone looking for a Yatai tour specialist in Fukuoka. We had a fantastic time and would happily come back for a follow-up tour with him next time!

One of the Highlights of Our Trip to Japan! My wife and I took the Harajuku Sweets and Street Food Tour with Shizuka Anderson back in May, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. We had such an amazing time with Shizuka. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and fun to be around, and by the end of the tour it honestly felt like we were exploring Harajuku with a friend. One of the things we really enjoyed was getting to talk with Shizuka about DAN DA DAN and our love of the show. We even had fun getting toys from the gacha vending machines, which made the experience even more memorable. The food was fantastic, but what made the tour special was getting to experience places and foods that we probably wouldn't have found on our own. One of our favorite experiences was making okonomiyaki at a local hidden-gem restaurant. It was such a fun experience, and getting to make it ourselves while enjoying the atmosphere made it something we'll remember. Shizuka did an amazing job bringing everything together- great food, Japanese culture, local experiences, and plenty of laughs along the way. She was also incredibly easy to talk to and made the entire tour feel relaxed and personal. We still talk about this experience when remembering our trip to Japan. If you're visiting Tokyo and want to experience Harajuku in a way that goes beyond the typical tourist attractions, I highly recommend booking this tour with Shizuka. Thank you, Shizuka

What a wonderful host and experience with Bruce! He’s super personable and we enjoyed the unique yatai he selected for us!

Shizuka Anderson's Harajuku Sweets and Street Food Tour was Fabulous! First, I want to say that since I had a knee problem, Shizuka was very helpful, caring, and accommodating - Shizuka was very patient and gave much-appreciated advice to ease my walking during the food tour. As for the tasty gems our tour group had at several shops along the way, the street food was delicious, including both the sweet and savory items, most notably the fried chicken on a stick and the small pancakes with ice cream. The restaurant that was our final stop had terrific Japanese food and drinks. I love how Shizuka not only prepared and explained the several very delicious dishes at our table but allowed me and the other food tour members to prepare the various foods. Shizuka is a terrific teacher - as well as very personable and a lot of fun - who made the restaurant experience like a very lively cooking class! It was a very pleasant surprise! I can't believe how the time flew by so quickly for the entire tour! In closing, I Most Highly recommend Shizuka Anderson's Harajuku Sweets and Street Food Tour! The food tour price is well worth it! If I'm ever in Tokyo again, I would love to take Shizuka's food tour for a second time - or any other food tour Shizuka may have! I wish I could give more than 5 stars for the Tour ....10 + stars!! And 10 + stars for Shizuka being such a lovely, very fun host!! 🙂

We had a lovely being with Bruce. Through him, we got to meet fellow patrons of the Yatai we visited. He was kind enough to share his take on Fukuoka and Japan, as well as the nice food we had. A very nice evening.

Shizuka was so sweet and friendly. Me and our kids was having so much fun and definitely went home with full belly. Very recommended tour! Hopefully Byfood and Shizuka will have another tour in the future (and hopefully we will have chance to join it again!).. Arigatou 🙏

Our guide Bruce was very knowledgeable about the menus and the characteristics of each yakati and even back stories of the owners. It was a great evening.
