My friend and I visited the Obubu tea farm in May 2024. We were staying in Kyoto, so it took about 2 hrs of public transport to reach the farm. It was nice to get put of the city and spend time in a lush and rural environment. I particularly enjoyed the visit to the tea fields and the tastings after lunch. It might be a good idea to have either a microphone or some other device while touring the factory, since the machines were so very loud, I didn’t hear a word ☹️

The place haca a great energy and the tea was delicious. I would like to do an internship at the farm. I would give them a 10. Very well orginezed.

Those who are interested in learning about planting, growing, harvesting, and brewing all-things green tea, including matcha tea, this tour would be a very informative and enjoyable. Definitely, more substantive than the touristy ritual tea ceremony. The staff worked hard to present lots of information. The big downside is that you have to get to the bus stop by the tea plantation and it’s not a straight forward ride. It would be good if there is a tour which meets in Kyoto center and escort you to the tea plantation for those who don’t want to deal with hassle of either driving or navigate through the public transit system. All in all a different day trip experience.

Highly recommend! Such a lovely experience. The people at Obubu tea farm were so friendly and knowledgeable. It’s a bit of a journey to get to the farm, but it’s a beautiful trip and once you arrive it’s a great four hours! We got up into the tea fields, tried nine of their beautiful teas with great information about each, had a delicious lunch and enjoyed learning about their processing facilities. A great day all around, our favorite thing we did this visit to Japan.

Kyoto Tea Tour

Many prefectures of Japan have great conditions for tea production, but Kyoto is well-known for pioneering Japan’s tea culture in the early days of Zen Buddhism in Japan. Discover the local stand-out varieties across the Kyoto region, such as famous Uji green tea, by joining a tea tour in Kyoto. Sample tea from the best local tea shops downtown, visit a family-run business with a history of Japanese tea, or escape to the fields of a local Kyoto tea farm for a day during a Kyoto tea tour. Learn about local ingredients and production methods that make tea from Kyoto so unique, and understand why tea is ingrained in everyday life. An immersive experience that’s also tied to Kyoto’s history, the Japanese tea ceremony is a cultural experience that is deeply rooted in ritual. Visit a traditional tea room where you can experience an unforgettable tea ceremony in Kyoto on an authentic tatami floor with local matcha green tea, local Kyoto wagashi sweets, and a trained tea master. Made from the best tea leaves, enjoy tasting different types of tea during a Kyoto tea tour, where you can compare regional tea flavors and discover your favorite!
