A great session with Takako, learning about Japanese home cooking and the benefits for fermented foods. Tasted koji, kombu, mirin and a variety of soy sauces. Takako then made some healthy and delicious dishes, which was a good change from some heavier restaurant meals. The recipes were also provided! Would definitely recommend.

We were met on time at Cora Coffee. Her class was set up nicely in her home. She spoke wonderful English and answered all our questions. She was very encouraging in our attempts and onigiri and Japanese only making ability or lack thereof. The food was wonderful. I would highly recommend this for anyone who loves Japanese food. And your breakfast is taken care of for the day.

What a wonderful experience! Everything was clearly explained and conducted in a friendly and welcoming environment. It was a real learning experience, and you got to eat your handiwork when you were finished. The host explained and demonstrated everything first and then let's you do it on your own. My friend and I LOVED this cooking class. It was our 2nd/3rd time to Kyoto so adding in cooking classes was a great, unique experience since we didn't have all the temples and bamboo forest on the agenda for this visit. Their English is FANTASTIC so really easy to understand and follow along. They prepare a lot of the measuring and things so you really focus on the cooking part of it and you can get to eat your creations throughout. You also walk away with all the recipes and you can even buy some of the Japanese specific cooking supplies there if you need (grating plate, sesame grinding bowl, etc.) Everything was delicious and I am excited to replicate these recipes at home and maybe turn them into my lunch bentos for work! Definitely add this to your trip itinerary! I would totally take it again if the menu changed over time.
