If you’re looking for a full day trip that will deepen your knowledge of Guatemala and expose you to interacting with local communities off-the-beaten-path, this is for you. The activities take place in the community of San Miguel Escobar on the outskirts of Antigua (20 or 30 minutes), where the coffee-growing families welcome you into their homes to start the experience in a rural Guatemalan kitchen to learn to cook Guatemalan traditional dishes: Pepian, plantain mole, and tortillas on a wood-burning stove. After lunch, a coffee farmer will lead you through their fields, explain the work behind cultivating coffee, walk you through each processing step from bean to brew, and finish the tour by joining you for a coffee in their home. Along the way, you’ll learn more than just the process behind coffee-you’ll have authentic and transparent conversations with small-scale producers and their families.

Your Antigua day trip is conducted by coffee-producing families in the community of San Miguel Escobar. It celebrates the heart of Guatemala and will allow you to immerse and connect with local communities. Start by learning to cook Guatemala’s traditional dish, Pepián the traditional way with a local family. After cooking and tasting this Guatemalan delicacy, explore the fields of a coffee farm, learn the process behind coffee, have meaningful conversations with the producers, and end the day with a freshly roasted and ground cup of coffee at their home.

Authentic Guatemalan Experience

Such an amazing and authentic experience! We were welcomed into Lidia and Mercedes’ family’s home, where we cooked lunch together and learned about their traditions and daily life. We then visited their coffee plantation and got to see the process firsthand while enjoying some delicious coffee. ☕️ I loved that the tour supports the local community through a nonprofit, and our hosts were so warm and welcoming. Amazing Day Tour

Such a special experience in Guatemala! We booked the full day tour with De La Gente, and it ended up being our favorite day of the whole trip. Our hosts, Jose and Miriam, were so welcoming and kind, and our experience was made even better by our translator, Erick. The food was incredible and it was so cool to learn the whole coffee process from seed to cup. 10000/10 would recommend.

The most wholesome day!

The most amazing experience. We did the Antigua day trip consisting of the cooking class and coffee making class. The cooking class was led by the lovely Lillian and Natalie (translator) - It was very wholesome and we had the best time. We went through the ingredients, prepped them and made pepian, mole, corn tortillas, and lemonade. Lillian accommodated for my vegetarian needs perfectly. Cooking Class was fabulopus

I've done the coffee tours several years ago, so I was excited the do the cooking class. It did not disappoint. It was fabulous. Wonderful interpreter, Jose Carlos. Wonderful husband and wife team. Clear instructions, wonderful food and we got the recipes for all we made.

Amazing local taste!

We did the Antigua day tour with an English translator. This included a cooking class and a coffee farm tour. The visit was perfect. We went to the family’s house and cooked pepian on the family’s wood stove. The translator was lovely and made sure everything was properly communicated throughout. The food was lovely and it was great seeing that part of the culture. Also the coffee tour was equally great as we got to see the plants and how the coffee is cultivated in Antigua.
