Old City Wall at Dajing Road (Dajing Ge)

Our appealing city walk will commence at Dajing Pavilion, where you can experience the remnants of the 500 - year - old city wall. We will share some pictures and historical facts to help you gain a comprehensive understanding of the disappeared Shanghai city wall, from its construction by local people in 1553 to its demolition in 1912. We plan to spend about 30 minutes at Dajing Pavilion, uncovering the secrets of the Shanghai city wall. Then, we will customize the detailed itinerary of this 4 - to - 5 - hour city walk according to your preferences.

Shanghai Baiyun Taoist Temple

Next to Dajing Pavilion, we'll visit Baiyun Taoist Temple, one of the most famous Taoist temples in Shanghai. Originally built in 1863. The temple complex consists of the Lingxiao Hall, Leizu Hall, Patriarch Hall, Goddess Hall, Medicine King Hall, Bell and Drum Towers, etc. The statues inside the halls are solemn, compassionate and lifelike. The overall architecture combines grandeur with delicacy, reflecting a blend of classical elegance and intricate craftsmanship, and showcasing the unique charm of traditional Chinese Taoist architecture.

Shanghai Confucian Temple (Pass By)

Pass by the Shanghai Confucius Temple under construction. Here, we'll share some old photos of the Shanghai Confucius Temple and recount its history. At the same time, we'll explore the thousand - year - old Chinese imperial examination system and its influence on China's modern education system. Finally, we'll talk about the personal charm of Confucius, the sage of culture through the ages, and the status of Confucianism. As an option, if you're passionate about wine - tasting and eager to get to know the local special yellow rice wine, you can select an extra option. Hunt for a traditional old - style restaurant. Just like the scholars in ancient times, as you're enjoying the Learning Palace of the Confucian Temple, leisurely savor the local yellow rice wine and the delicate Jiangnan cuisine.

Chenxiang Temple

After leaving the Confucius Temple Area, we will head to the old Nanmen Gate Area. On the way, we will try some local delicacies. If you choose the morning itinerary, you'll have the chance to taste Shanghai - style breakfast. Once we arrive at the Nanmen Gate Area, we will stop in front of the old house where Albert Einstein was received and take pictures of the tallest steel tower in Shanghai from 100 years ago. The fifth stop of our city walk is Shanghai Chenxiang Buddhist Temple. It is a Buddhist temple located in the bustling city of Shanghai. Originally built during the Song Dynasty, the temple is dedicated to the worship of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, who is one of the most widely revered deities in East Asian Buddhism. Visitors to the Chenxiang Nunnery can experience a moment of tranquility and spiritual reflection amidst the hustle and bustle of Shanghai's urban environment.

Shanghai Old Street

The sixth stop and an important one of our city walk is Shanghai Old Street. Actually, Shanghai Old Street, which is also named Shanghai Old Town Bazaar, is not the biggest Chinatown around the world but a vibrant and colorful destination that captures the essence of old Shanghai. It offers a unique combination of history, culture, and commerce, making it a must - visit place for anyone interested in experiencing the traditional side of this modern metropolis. Near the end of our city walk, we plan to arrange a tea - ceremony experience at Shanghai Old Street.

Yu Garden (Yuyuan)

The last stop of our city walk is Yu Yuan Garden, also known as the Garden of Happiness. It is a famous classical Chinese garden located in the northeast of Shanghai Old Town. It was built in the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan, a government officer, as a private garden for his father. The construction began in 1559 and was completed in 1577. The garden is renowned for its exquisite layout, beautiful scenery, and artistic architecture, which are characteristic of the southern Chinese garden style. It features traditional elements such as rock formations, ponds, pavilions, halls . The garden is divided into six main areas, each with its own unique landscape and design. You can buy a 30 or 40 RMB tickets check in the garden or appreciate the architectures outside its main gate.

Our 4 - 5 - hour immersive Shanghai city walk tour concludes at Shanghai Old Town Park. This park serves as a cross - cultural meeting point where traditional culture meets modern culture.
