Join us on this tour of the Douro Valley, passing through the city of Amante where you can appreciate the architecture of the Church of São Gonçalo built in 1543. The Church and Cloister of the Convent of São Gonçalo have been classified as a National Monument since 1910. Taste Also the local conventual sweets, Papos de Anjo, Foguetes, Lérias and BRISES do Tâmega are some of the delicious sugary sweets sold in the best pastry shops in the city.

Good To Know

Amarante

Amarante will be the first stop. Here, learn about the history of the City and visit the Church and Monastery of São Gonçalo. Appreciate the bridge that is believed to have originally existed in this location, as this was the route of the Roman road that would pass through Amarante, towards Guimarães and Braga. Try the convent sweets at São Gonçalo and Papos de Anjo.

Church of Sao Goncalo

Its construction began in 1543 and lasted around 80 years. With Renaissance, Mannerist, Baroque and 19th century styles. The pipe organ stands out, as well as the tomb of Blessed Gonçalo de Amarante on the right side of the altar. The pipe organ with 43 registers was built in 1766, by the Galician organ maker Francisco António Solha

Sabrosa

Pinhao

A small village right in the center of the Douro Valley, considered the Heart of the Douro Valley. It is the center of the demarcated Port Wine region and the place where several farms producing fortified wine are located. Its landscape is classified by UNESCO as a cultural heritage of humanity. It is this village that will offer you a relaxing boat trip on the Douro River. Sail on the Douro River (Spanish: Duero) is a river that originates in the peaks of the Serra de Urbión, in the Spanish province of Soria. It is the third longest river in the Iberian peninsula. It is 897 km long, 572 km on Spanish soil, 213 km navigable on Portuguese territory and 112 km of an international nature, as its course also forms the border between Portugal and Spain. The Douro River flows into the city of Porto where the famous Porto wines also flow.

Peso Da Regua

Peso da Régua is known as the capital of the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, created in 1756 by the Marquês de Pombal. Its name Peso da Régua results from the concatenation of the names of the two locations that gave rise to the modern town. Peso was the original town, Régua, corresponding to the lower part of the current city and extending along the banks of the Douro.
