This class is an interactive and hands-on cooking class where everyone participate to make the meals and learn about traditional food. So expect to learn some hands on tips and tricks and have a lot of fun! It is not only a cooking class. It is also a great way to immerse and learn about the culture, practice your Spanish, connect with other travelers and visit a home of a family. We want our guests to have a great time and feel welcome. You will learn about the culture, traditions and local gastronomy. Most meals can be adapted to vegetarian or vegan options and gluten free with advance notice. Receive instructions in English or Spanish.

The best way to learn about traditional Oaxacan Cuisine is to experience it! Cooking class is an interactive cooking workshop run by a local family that offers a fun and exciting way to learn traditional Mexican cuisine while also enjoying drinks and sharing different tasks. This class is hands-on and collaborative. You will prepare the dishes as a group, each person sharing responsibility for different steps in preparation of the 3 course meals that you will enjoy together with complementary mezcalitas. The course meals includes: two types of salsa, one starter , one main meal and one dessert. Menu selection takes place as a group before we enter the market in the city. Most meals can be adapted to vegetarian or vegan options with advance notice. We will buy Fresh corn dough " Masa nixtamalizada" for tortillas and the base of the starter. However the rest of the meals are prepared from scratch. After shopping and visiting the market, there is private transportation to a local home and trip back to the meet up location at centro.

STARTER

All starters "antojitos" are based on Corn masa(dough) with local Oaxaca cheese and black beans. Salad and salsas complement them.

MAIN

One traditional mole from scratch.

A complex sauce made with 10 to 15 ingredients. Complemented with some chicken or oyster mushrooms as a vegetarian option.

DESSERT

Sweet dessert.

The dessert is with milk, sugar and eggs.

I cannot recommend this experience more highly

An absolutely excellent experience. The family who organise everything are wonderful and made sure that all attending had a great time - making cocktails and our Mexican menu. The group attending was from all over the world and we all enjoyed meeting each other, the cookery lesson and eating the food we had made ourselves. I cannot recommend this experience more highly!

Very filling

Authentic Oaxacan cooking class – unforgettable experience ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lucy and I had such a fantastic day with Alfonso and his family. From the very start it felt like a truly authentic experience – visiting the local market to shop for fresh ingredients, learning traditional cooking techniques in their family home, and of course enjoying the delicious food we made together. Alfonso was a brilliant host, warm, knowledgeable, and full of energy. His parents were so welcoming and fun – especially Alfonso Sr., who kept us laughing throughout. Great food and excellent company

Amazing day of food and drink and fun. The pick up point was a little confusing but after that it was an excellent day. Great food, great company, and so informative as well as fun. Food allergies were catered too and never felt like it was a problem for it to be arranged/altered. Highly recommend this!
