Experience Details

This class is hand-on and practical (led by a trained facilitator).


You will be working in pairs, per station to create your deserts. You will have enough ingredients to both takeaway an individual dessert.


You'll learn AfriJerk's own techniques that can easily be repeated at home and you'll also receive a recipe so you can recreate this bake at home.


You'll discover our traditions and learn historical tips about our unique cuisine


Vegetarians and vegans are welcome, but please let us know in advance if you have any dietary restrictions and we will be sure to make the necessary arrangements.

Malva Pudding
Malva pudding is a sweet South African dessert that is served warm custard or icecream. It contains apricot jam and has a spongy caramelised texture.

Bulkas (Boolkes)
Boolkes are traditional African style cinnamon buns. These delicious pastry’s are a favourite of Jewish communities for breaking fast on Yom Kippur.

Biskuti ya mnazi aka Cocadas
These desserts are well known across different African countries and remind most people of coconut macarons.

What You’ll Experience

This experience is for people who want a practical way to learn about the African & Caribbean cuisines and culture from the places that the Portugal is historically connected to. This is a positive experience to celebrate unique food, in a hands-on way, right here in Lisbon! Go beyond hearing about these flavoursome desserts and learn how to bake these treats yourself during this cooking class. Step-by-step instructions from a facilitator will teach you how to make some delicious Afro-Caribbean desserts. * Learn to make our on-trend, traditional Afro-Caribbean dessert from an expert facilitator * Bottled water is included * Devour your bakes on site or feel free take them home and share (or not…) * All ability levels are welcome * Enjoy a small-group atmosphere with a maximum of 8 traveller’s
