Experience Details

Ollantina cooks Jenny and Ruth have joined forces to teach Peruvian home cooking. Join one of these two teachers to prepare some of Peru’s most beloved dishes. The class begins with a quick tour of the colorful Ollantaytambo market where you'll learn all about local foods and how best to choose them. You will then head to the well-equipped Awamaki kitchen and prepare a traditional drink, appetizer, and main course to enjoy together at their table.

Shredded chicken or avocado with vegetables, layered with a lemony potato mash, served cold.

Rocoto Relleno
Traditional Peruvian rocoto hot pepper stuffed with seasoned meat or veggies and baked.
DESSERT
Chicha Morada
Lightly sweetened purple corn drink with cinnamon, pineapple and other typical flavors.

What You’ll Experience

Learn traditional dishes of Peru with your cooking teachers and community partners, Jenny and Ruth. After meeting your guide and cooking teacher, head to the market to pick out the ingredients for your dinner. Then, head to the Awamaki office to make dinner. You will learn to prepare Rocoto Relleno (stuffed spicy pepper) or Papa a la Huancaina (traditional potatoes with cheese-pepper sauce), along with an appetizer and traditional refreshment, like Limonada or Chicha Morada, a lightly sweet purple corn drink.
