Experience Details

This isn’t your typical food tour — it’s more like wandering through Beijing with a local who shares your curiosity and pace. There’s no flag to follow, no fixed route to rush through. Instead, you’ll be paired with an English-speaking local based on your interests. They might be a university student, a retired hutong resident eager to practice their English, or an artistic soul who simply enjoys showing people the city’s quieter, tastier corners.

Together, you’ll explore the Caishikou and Niujie area not as tourists, but as fellow wanderers. You’ll stop when something catches your eye, chat with shopkeepers or street vendors, and try snacks that are chosen by the moment.

What makes this experience even more special is the guidebook you’ll receive — a handpicked collection of local flavors and food stories.Whether you end up discovering century-old roast chicken or a secret spot for crispy gezihe, this journey is all about connection, spontaneity, and savoring the real Beijing.

What You’ll Experience

As you wander through the peaceful Caishikou hutongs, your local friends will share stories of everyday life in old Beijing. You might pass by landmarks like the Fayuan Temple, one of the oldest temples in the city; the Kongzhu (Chinese yo-yo) Museum; or the Xuan Nan Bookstore. There’s no fixed schedule — you’ll stop, explore, and chat depending on the day’s rhythm and your curiosity. You’ll enjoy at least four kinds of local snacks, handpicked based on your guide’s knowledge and your personal tastes. Some of the possible delights include: Crispy "gezihe" (咯吱盒), grilled lamb skewers, warm and fragrant with spices...perhaps roast chicken from Da Yi, a beloved halal specialty, handmade beef or lamb meat pies from time-honored street stalls, or yogurt from Ziguangyuan — sweet, tangy, and deeply satisfying. Your host will happily adjust and take you to try alternative options. This tour is designed for curious travelers who are looking to experience the city through a personal lens. There’s no microphone or flag to follow — just you and a local, walking, talking, tasting, and noticing the little things that make Beijing so rich and layered.
