Experience Details

Take part in the traditional process of sheep milking, cheesemaking workshop and cooking class (cretan traditional cheese pies). Later, under the shade of cherry trees and a large plane tree, the stone table is set. A traditional mountain food tasting awaits you!

Fried lamb liver
A tender, nutrient-dense offal dish characterized by its rich, earthy flavor and velvety texture, served with Cretan rusk
MAIN
"Ofto" lamb
Ofto (antikritsto), is an ancient Cretan method of slow-roasting meat (usually lamb) around an open fire.
MAIN
Oftes patates
A potato wrapped in foil and slowly roasted in the embers of a wood fire, developing a rich, smoky flavor and a wonderfully soft texture.

Seasonal salad
Traditional salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and onion

Pasta with anthotyro
Pasta cooked the traditional way, in meat broth with traditional "anthotyro" cheese (salty cheese for pasta)

Anogiano anthogalo
Traditional fresh cream cheese, like sour yogurt

Pites
Traditional cheese pies with honey or sugar (prepared during the workshop), served with raki or Greek coffee, and seasonal fruit

What You’ll Experience

Begin your experience with a warm welcome of Cretan raki. Learn about the history of the area and the way of life, in the mountain of Psiloritis and discover the world of the Cretan shepherd. Take part in the traditional process of cheesemaking and milking or sheep shearing, two essential parts of pastoral life in the mountains. Join a hands-on cooking workshop, where you will prepare traditional cheese pies under the guidance of an experienced member of the family. Later, under the shade of apple trees, cherry trees, and a large plane tree, the stone table is set. A traditional mountain food tasting awaits you, with wine aged at the family mitato or craft beer from local producers. For our little guests we offer orange juice. Conclude your experience with the traditional cheese pies we prepared together, sprinkled with local honey or sugar, and moments of relaxation while enjoying the cool mountain air of the Nida Plateau, in the shadow of mighty Psiloritis.
