Vjetrenica Cave
Vjetrenica Cave, located in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina near the village of Zavala, is the largest and most famous cave in the country. Known for its striking underground halls, lakes, and diverse ecosystem, it is home to over 200 species, many of them endemic. The cave’s name, meaning "wind cave," comes from the strong, cool drafts felt at its entrance. Vjetrenica is also part of the tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage status, celebrated for both its natural beauty and scientific significance.
