Join us for a journey into the world of fungi with this comprehensive mushroom foraging workshop. Participants will gain essential skills in safe mushroom identification and ecological awareness under the guidance of expert Maya Elson. The experience begins with an informative presentation covering mushrooming basics, followed by an exciting outdoor foraging expedition. Together, you’ll gather and identify various fungi, discussing their ecological significance and culinary potential. Maya’s regenerative practices ensure that your foraging habits promote sustainability and community resilience, enriching your connection with nature and the vital role of mushrooms in our ecosystem.

Each workshop can be tailored to the interests of the participants, feel free to pick and choose any topics from the menu of workshops and Maya will weave it in. Every foraging workshop starts with a brief talk on safe mushroom foraging practices--both for you and the ecosystem. Then as we walk and find mushrooms we'll learn about the incredible world of fungal ecology, including info on when and where to find various types of mushrooms. We will cover to identify certain trees, and the mushrooms that grow on or with them. When we find edible mushrooms, we'll discuss how to identify them and what features distinguish them from any poisonous look alikes. We'll also discuss how to prepare them, and their nutritional and medicinal qualities.
