Experience Details

• Step into a traditional Madeiran family home and learn to make Bolo do Caco, the island’s iconic bread, in a fun, hands-on experience.

• Guided by a seasoned baker with over 40 years of expertise, you’ll knead, shape, and cook bread on a hot stone in our wood-fired oven.

• Savor your freshly baked bread with local treats like garlic butter, Portuguese cheese, and chouriço in an intimate small-group setting.

• This is more than a cooking class—it’s a chance to feel like a friend in our home and enjoy an authentic taste of Madeira’s traditions.

What You’ll Experience

Visit our home and dive into the art of making Bolo do Caco, Madeira Island’s most traditional bread. In this family-style experience, my mother—who has over 40 years of bread-making expertise—will be your guide. You’ll start by learning about the history and cultural significance of this iconic bread, then roll up your sleeves to knead the dough and shape it by hand. As the bread cooks on a hot stone, the warm atmosphere of our kitchen will make you feel right at home, filled with laughter, stories, and the smell of freshly baked bread. Once the bread is ready, we’ll gather around the table to enjoy it, paired with delicious Madeiran specialties like garlic butter, portuguese cheese, and chouriço. All of this is set against the serene backdrop of the mountains, offering a truly authentic and unforgettable experience of Madeira’s culinary traditions.
