Unlike Lyon's standard guided tours, this experience is led by a professional sommelier and stays up in the authentic Croix-Rousse district, well away from the tourist trail. No guide reeling off dates here, you pick your own products straight from the neighbourhood's genuine artisans, taste Lyon's specialities one by one as they're explained to you, and finish with a proper wine-tasting workshop where you'll learn to taste Rhône Valley wines like a pro.

Over this two-hour food walk on the Croix-Rousse plateau, your sommelier shows you the neighbourhood the way a local lives it, you taste and you learn, rather than simply doing the tourist rounds. You'll meet at the Gros Caillou for the panorama over the city, then cross Place de la Croix-Rousse and head down the Grande Rue, the old high street of what was once a village of its own. As you go, your sommelier talks you through each Lyon speciality at the very moment you taste it. You'll pick your own charcuterie at the butcher's, try the famous pink praline at Maison Pralus, and choose a few cheeses at the cheesemonger's, slipping off the main street into the quiet lanes of the plateau along the way. The experience ends at Cave Tabareau, with a proper wine-tasting workshop, you'll learn to look at, smell and taste a selection of Rhône Valley and local wines, to understand where they come from and how to pair them with your finds. You'll leave a real expert of France's gastronomic capital !

Must do!

We had so much fun on this tour! Louis is very personable and knowledgeable about wine pairings. Loved that it was a just our small group and Louis took his time with us and let us enjoy everything. Highly recommended!

Unbeatable experience in Lyon!

Louis was amazing! From the walk through the city and thorough explanations of its history, to showing us its boutique and special gastronomy throughout - it was so special. We were then educated about wine and how to pair it with the selected foods. He was so knowledgeable and we found it so easy to learn and understand the information he presented. Louis was incredible and the wine experience was the clear highlight for our time in Lyon! Could not recommend the experience more highly, simply incredible knowledge and experience you will not find anywhere else. You cannot miss this!
