You’re not following a generic tour; you’re engaging with independent specialty coffee shops, passionate baristas, and real historical spaces that still shape daily life in San José. And finally, it’s great because it changes how you see coffee. By the end of the crawl, coffee is no longer just a beverage—it’s a cultural force that helped build a country, a city, and a way of thinking that values dialogue, community, and identity.

On this walking experience, you’ll visit 3 specialty coffee shops that showcase Costa Rica’s rich coffee culture, while exploring the streets, plazas, and landmarks that shaped the nation’s history. With 11 curated stops, the crawl blends the sensory pleasures of coffee with the deeper narrative of how this humble bean transformed Costa Rica. From fueling political decisions in the 19th century to financing theaters, universities, and public works, coffee built the foundations of our political and social reality. At each café, you’ll enjoy a different perspective of specialty coffee—whether it’s a unique brewing method, a tasting of local micro-lots, or conversations with passionate baristas. Between shops, you’ll wander through San José’s historic center, stopping at key landmarks that reveal how coffee exports forged our identity and connected Costa Rica to the wider world. By the end, you’ll have tasted the city in its purest form: through its coffee, its streets, and its stories. Great coffee tour in the city

The tour was very informative. Antoñio knows a great amount about the coffee history of Costa Rica. The cafes chosen were all nice and had great drink options. Drinks are included but there is time to order coffees if you want and drink at each stop. It is a good amount of walking, so recommended to wear comfortable shoes. Not recommended for anyone with mobility issues. But if you are very interested in coffee, you won’t even realize how much you have walked. Highly recommend this tour. Especia...read more

Highly recommend if you are a coffee lover!

We absolutely loved the coffee tour. Antonio took us to several local spots and explained the process of how the coffees are made and the different types that are available. Not only did we visit several amazing local spots, we learned a lot about the history of San Jose. It was a wonderful morning and one of the highlights of our trip. We recommend!
