Experience Details

Explore the Setúbal Peninsula and Arrábida Natural Park on a full-day journey combining Portuguese wine, local flavors, charming villages and breathtaking landscapes. Cross the Vasco da Gama Bridge and visit the Livramento Market in Setúbal (on Mondays, Palmela Castle instead). In Azeitão, visit a historic family-owned wine cellar, learn about Portuguese winemaking and enjoy a tasting of Moscatel de Setúbal and red wine, followed by the traditional Tortas de Azeitão. Drive through the scenic Arrábida Mountains, with spectacular views of the Atlantic, Sado River and coastline, including a stop at around 500m altitude overlooking Portinho da Arrábida. Continue to Sesimbra, where you’ll have free time for lunch, exploring and relaxing by the beach. Lunch is not included; we recommend trying the local specialty choco frito. Before returning to Lisbon, stop at Cristo Rei for panoramic views of Lisbon, the 25 de Abril Bridge and Tagus River, then cross the iconic bridge back to the city.

The visit to the Museum House begins with a brief explanation of the company’s history, followed by a tour of the ancient wine cellars: Adega da Mata and Adega dos Teares Novos, where wines such as Periquita mature, and Adega dos Teares Velhos, where the oldest Setúbal Muscatels (Muscats or Moscateis) rest, some of which are true relics over 100 years old. At the end of the tour, the visitor can sample some of the wines produced by José Maria da Fonseca. The fried cuttlefish is the king of the Setubal gastronomy. There are hundreds of places cooking the typical mollusc of the region, served with chips and salad. In the past, the cuttlefish strips started to be served in some taverns attended by fishermen as delicacies, always with a wine jug.

The Serra da Arrábida Natural Park, amidst the deep blue sea and the green of the hills, is an excellent place to test your physical condition. Situated by the sea, the park offers some of the most stunning coastal scenery in the Lisbon area. Like a wall of green sticking out over the Atlantic, the hills offer shelter to small coves of white sand where, despite being on the edge of the ocean, the sea is almost free of waves. With luck, your trip will be enriched by the symbol of the estuary - the dolphins accompanying you with their magnificent leaps.
