Sean's Bar

At 12:00, we arrive at Sean’s Bar in Athlone, officially recognized in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest pub in Ireland. Established in 900 AD, this site has offered hospitality at this strategic River Shannon crossing for over 1,100 years. It remains a definitive piece of Irish heritage, predating the Norman conquest and the very invention of modern whiskey. Authentic Heritage and Hospitality While onsite until 12:50, you can view the original 9th-century wattle and wicker walls, verified by the National Museum of Ireland. This stop provides a rare opportunity to sample Sean’s Specially Blended Whiskey or a premier Irish coffee in an atmosphere that has hosted travelers since the early Middle Ages. It is a brief but essential encounter with the birthplace of Irish tavern culture. Enjoy time at leisure on your own tab.

Tullamore

At 13:30, we break for lunch at The Old Warehouse in Tullamore. This meticulously restored 1829 bonded store—the original home of Tullamore D.E.W.—is co-owned by Irish golfing legend Shane Lowry (Ryder Cup Team Europe 2023 / 2025) and was recently named Ireland’s "Number One Pub" by the Sunday World. The interior honours its industrial roots with original stone walls and a spiral staircase designed to evoke the inside of a whiskey barrel. The upstairs restaurant offers a sophisticated menu featuring premium local ingredients. Guests can expect refined classics such as Wagyu beef burgers, crispy pork belly, and prime Irish filet mignon paired with garlic langoustines from the Celtic Sea. With its blend of historic architecture and contemporary excellence, it provides an ideal setting for a comfortable afternoon break. Enjoy time at leisure on your own tab. Old Warehouse is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Guests travelling on those days will enjoy a good local alternative.

Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery Experience

Arrive at Tullamore D.E.W. at 15:00 to explore a landmark founded in 1829. This distillery rose to fame under Daniel E. Williams, whose innovation defines the house style. As the only site featuring pot, malt, and grain stills in one location, it represents a flawless marriage of 19th-century grit and modern engineering. During this 105-minute experience, you will witness the signature "triple" process: triple distilled, blended, and matured. Your journey begins with an Irish coffee before an exclusive "Dip the Dog" tasting in the warehouse. This rare opportunity allows you to sample whiskey directly from the cask, offering a unique connection to the aging process. The visit concludes with a masterclass featuring three award-winning expressions. Priced at €47.00—and included in your tour—it is the perfect digestif following a gourmet lunch. We depart at 17:00.
