Until recently, the Naval Site was not open to the public. It wasn't even visible on Google Maps. This is where the VOC ships were built and the city's ammunition was stored. Less than a kilometer from the city center! Recently, it has become a recreation area. The officers' buildings are rented out to startups focusing on water quality worldwide. There are some great hotels, and the harbor has become a public swimming pool. Here, we toast to a pleasant day. Anyone who's interested can take a refreshing dip. (Bring a towel!)

Then we continue towards the Kromboomsloot. In the Middle Ages, this was just outside the city gate. Now it's the Waag (weigh house) on the Nieuwmarkt. In the 1970s, demolition was threatened due to the construction of a highway. Local residents and squatters revolted. Now, there are no cars rushing through here, but there are a lot of tourists. Eigenwijs en mooi

Wat een leuke dag met Esmee. Een mooie mix tussen bekendere en avontuurlijke plekken en dito verhalen. Haar enthousiasme is aanstekelijk en ze maakt echt contact met de mensen in de groep. Een bijzondere tour, zo wil ik er wel meer.

Het was een verrassing en viel in goede aarde.

Met de ferry gingen we naar het NDSM eiland voor een kop koffie en een rondleiding. Daarna richting de Jordaan via onverwachte stille en pittoreske wijken. De verhalen van Esmee waren zeer de moeite waard. Het afsluitend diner bij Esmee liep over in een muzikaal festijn.

Amsterdam different and authentic.

What a special day to experience Amsterdam in an alternative way with Esmee. Through her I discovered with a group of other participants the side of the city that is authentic, artistic monuments, art, history explained, architecture discussed along the way with humor and in an inspired and sympathetic way. Finally a delicious dinner the cozy home of our guide prepared by her herself! Highly recommended!

Gezellige wandeling door apart stukje Amsterdam

Hele gezellige en leuke wandeling door een stukje Amsterdam dat ik nog niet goed kende. Esmee is een hartelijke en vrolijke gids die leuke info gaf over de plekken die wij op onze wandeling tegenkwamen. Het diner dat zij serveerden na afloop van de wandeling bij haar thuis was heerlijk.
