Experience Details
Hop on board a small fishing boat for a boat tour and fishing experience in Asoura, Mie. You’ll be guided by Hashimoto Jun from Yuuei Fisheries in Asoura, a fishing village along the coast of Mie Prefecture.
From there, it’s all smooth sailing, gliding across the dazzlingly blue water as the land fades out of sight behind you. Hashimoto-san will take you to one of his fixed-net fishing spots where you’ll help bring the catch onboard, transferring the wild seafood with a handheld net. He’ll introduce you to the variety of species that are native to the bay; seafood such as Japan’s prized sea bream, gleaming yellowtail, and ethereal-looking squid.
After the fishing boat tour, you’ll return to Hashimoto-san’s guest house for the cooking class portion of the tour. Using the fresh seafood from your catch, he’ll teach you how to fillet a whole fish and make sashimi. For a show-stopping centerpiece, you’ll also make a whole salt-baked fish.
After baking it, you’ll crack open the shell of salt to reveal the tender meat inside, perfectly-seasoned and soft. Alongside this, you’ll enjoy a feast of sashimi with rice and soup. A simple, delicious, and wholesome meal that’s made with the freshest fish possible, highlighting the bounty of the bay.
