I had a wonderful experience. Sawa-san (the host) came and picked me up from the station and drove me through the lovely Mie countryside to the guesthouse. We even stopped along the way to gather FRESH spring water from pipes (constantly inspected for freshness/cleanliness), literally, from the side of a mountain. The guesthouse is fantastic and spacious with all the modern facilities and amenities one would expect. Sawa-san even made these little dried garlic-bread snacks to have with tea. She is wonderful. I especially enjoyed out time cooking. The sukiyaki was an incredible experience for a first-timer. All of the vegetables (that we gathered from her own enclosed garden) and Matsusaka beef were delicious and she did a tremendous job preparing it for me. Cooking rice using a traditional wood-fire stove felt very authentic. The same thing with breakfast; Sawa-san prepared a feast on both occasions. She is a wonderful host who enjoys showing her culture and lifestyle to guests, and I cannot recommend this experience enough. Book it. You will not be disappointed.

1.Good communication in coordinating p/up from the train to the farmer's inn. 2. Immediately, felt welcomed to the home/farm of Mokumokuya by the owners. 3. Had great experiences by helping pick potatoes, collect chicken eggs, spring water & fish for our dinner. Especially, since we are city folks. 4. Delicious dinner, *conversations and hospitality from the time we arrived to our departure the next day. 5. We look forward to visiting and staying at this farm again on our next visit to Japan. *Both hosts & us used our language translator apps to communicate to each other. It was very effective as little got lost in translations.

Loved this experience. Hosts were very friendly and caring. Unfortunately due to the timing, I could only do tea picking, but to make up for it, they took me to a park, to the mountains etc. They were proactively offering to take pictures and helping me plan my return itinerary. I wish I could stay longer to also go around by myself in the beautiful nature. The meals (dinner & breakfast) were too big for one person and they were still trying to offer me different things. The room was also extremely spacious, authentic Japanese house, everything you need, not more, not least, with wabisabi spirit;) Big thank you and a strong recommendation for nature lovers who want to experience the Japanese hospitality.

Discover Culinary Delights in Mie

Located in the heart of Japan's Kansai region, Mie Prefecture is a hidden gem for food enthusiasts seeking authentic Japanese culinary experiences. Known for its rich marine culture and verdant landscapes, Mie offers a wide array of food experiences that will delight your taste buds. Whether you're a fan of fresh seafood, traditional Japanese sweets, or unique local dishes, you'll find something special here that truly represents the diverse flavors of Japan.

One of Mie's most famous culinary offerings is fresh seafood. With its extensive coastline along Ise Bay and the Pacific Ocean, Mie is home to some of the most delectable seafood in Japan. Experience the exceptional taste of Ise Ebi lobster, a local delicacy known for its sweet and tender meat. You can enjoy it prepared in various ways, from sushi and sashimi to being grilled to perfection. Apart from Ise Ebi, the region is also renowned for its rich harvest of oysters, abalone, and sea urchin. Visiting an Ama diving village offers a unique opportunity to taste seafood freshly harvested by traditional female divers known as Ama, who have been practicing their craft for centuries.

Indulge in Mie's Unique Local Flavors

Mie's culinary scene goes beyond seafood. Another must-try is Matsusaka beef, one of the top three wagyu beef types in Japan alongside Kobe and Ohmi. Raised in the lush pastures of Mie, Matsusaka beef is prized for its exquisite marbling and rich, buttery flavor. Experience it in an authentic Japanese restaurant where it is often grilled over a teppan or served as a part of a traditional hotpot. The melt-in-your-mouth texture and umami flavor of Matsusaka beef are unforgettable.

Moreover, Mie is also famous for its diverse and delicious sweets. Akafuku mochi, a local confection that has been enjoyed by pilgrims visiting the Ise Jingu shrine for over three centuries, is a signature sweet treat you cannot miss. Made with soft rice mochi topped with sweet red bean paste, it perfectly complements a cup of matcha or green tea. While in Mie, you can also explore the art of traditional sweet-making through workshops that offer hands-on experiences on crafting these delightful treats.

Explore Traditional and Cultural Food Experiences

Immerse yourself fully in Japanese culture by engaging in traditional food experiences in Mie. Participate in a tea ceremony at a historical tea house, where you'll learn about the rituals that have been passed down through generations. The serene setting and the artful preparation of matcha provide a glimpse into Japanese tradition and hospitality. Additionally, you can engage in cultural cooking classes where you can learn to prepare traditional dishes like sushi, tempura, or even local specialties unique to Mie. These activities not only enhance your culinary skills but also deepen your appreciation of Japanese culture.

From the exquisite taste of Matsusaka beef to the refreshing sweetness of Akafuku mochi, Mie offers food experiences that are sure to impress. The mixture of rich tradition, unique local flavors, and fresh ingredients makes Mie a culinary destination that every food lover should explore.
