Experience Details
Starting at Tokyo, Osaka, or Kyoto, hop aboard the super-fast Shinkansen bullet train (ticket included) to Shizuoka! With train fare, snacks and ekiben (train bento), local tour guide, 6 food stops, and return travel included; this is the ultimate Shizuoka tour package, a 6-7 hour tour in total.
Shizuoka, a prefecture known for high-quality green tea leaves, fresh wasabi, and the sweetest mikan (mandarin oranges) in Japan, has abundant natural resources that contribute to the local food culture. The cuisine of Fujinomiya, in particular, benefits from the crisp and clear spring water of Mt. Fuji, which is one of the most important components to making Japanese sake and soba noodles, as well as delicious Japanese tea!
We’ll begin this Shizuoka food tour at the new Mt. Fuji World Heritage Cultural Center. From there, you’ll enjoy a green tea tasting experience with wagashi, try high-quality soba made with mountain spring water, taste a local style of oden, and more! The food tour includes stops at Omiya Yokocho, a popular drinking alley where delicious snacks abound; and Fujisan Sengen Shrine, the primary shrine dedicated to Mt. Fuji and also the usual starting point for climbers who attempt Japan’s tallest mountain.
While it’s an easy day trip from Tokyo, Fujinomiya is not your average tourist attraction. The Flavors of Mt. Fuji Tour will introduce you to local Shizuoka specialties, family-run shops, and stunning seasonal wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets). Get inspired by Furusato (the local Japanese hometown spirit) in Fujinomiya during this food tour of Fujinomiya!

Experience Location
The city of Fujinomiya, located in the southwestern foothills of Mt. Fuji, was built around Fujisan Sengen Shrine, which was built over 1000 years ago in dedication to Mt. Fuji. Traditionally, climbers use the shrine as a starting point on their journey up Mt. Fuji. Not only is Fujinomiya the go-to location for adventurous climbers, but it is also a perfect spot for a foodie adventure. The city is home to delicious Japanese sake, soba, and tea, made with the local spring water that bubbles up from beneath Mt. Fuji.
