Experience Details
Kumano, part of Mie in the Kansai region, is deeply rich in both history and nature. From breathtakingly stunning coastlines to the ancient Ise Jingu Shrine, this prefecture is an underrated spot for travelers. Get an opportunity to encounter the natural beauty that Mie’s coasts have to offer with a full day of activities. Hop into a little boat and cruise through the crystal-clear waters of the Kumano Sea. Within a few minutes, you will arrive at the fishing spot (in a calm cove), where local fisherwomen will show you the ropes. Back on the land, you will learn the art of gyotaku, a traditional Japanese method of printing fish that dates back to the 1800s. Gyotaku utilizes sumi ink and washi paper. But in this experience, an eco bag or t-shirt will take in place of washi paper– you can show off your creative side and make an awesome souvenir! This experience concludes with a barbecue lunch using the fresh catches of the day, ending the afternoon off on a perfect note. English-language support is provided for this experience.
