Our experience provides a true immersion in the rich prehistoric history of Alentejo, starting with the enigmatic Cromeleque of the Portela de Mogos. We continue to the Anta do Pinheiro Grande. Then we explore the Cromeleque des Almendres, the largest in the Iberian Peninsula. After this historic tour, we enjoy a delicious lunch at Restaurant A Ribeira, where you can taste authentic Alentejo cuisine. The afternoon follows with a visit to the Escoural Caves, a site with unique rock art, and the Interpretative Centre, where you will learn more about the remote past of the region. Next we visit the Anta-Capela de São Brissos, a fascinating fusion between a prehistoric dolmen and a popular cult chapel. This tour offers a combination of history, culture and gastronomy, in a natural setting that is a true treasure of Alentejo.

stupendous tour of Neolithic and prehistoric sites

Spectacular-we got to see a wonderful array of Neolithic and very prehistoric sites. These are difficult to see elsewhere-go before it becomes commercialized then closed to the public as Stonehenge has become. Pedro is an excellent guide and host to his area; very much enjoyed lunch at his father in law’s very Portugués restaurant. My only suggestion is he provide water in the am and pm as other tours do—very small point in otherwise outstanding fun and educational experience

An incredible day of culture and beauty

This tour was INCREDIBLE. The guide, Pedro, was absolutely fantastic. We learned so much about the ancient sites and history of the region. The tour was a perfect balance of learning, fun, great company, great food and deeply fascinating culture. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Magical investment of time immersed in the Anthropology of the Alentejo.

Pedro picked us promptly at our hotel and was engaging and informative on the 20 minute drive to a small dolmen, carefully chosen for scale so we would appreciate the size of the larger ones. Next to the first cromlech known only to locals. Beautiful setting in a cork oak grove. After an impressive visit to the Almendres cromlech, we went to a delicious lunch in Montemor-a-Novo, where the entertaining owner sang the menu. Metgalitic and Cave Tour

Pedro was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the Megalithic sites. He was professional, shared his personal experiences and provided good recommendations for other sites to see in Evora. We had a very tasty traditional Portuguese lunch too! There were 2 issues. Getting in and out of the van was difficult for a couple of the guests because the step off was too high. An easy solution is to have a one-step short ladder.
