Walking down the streets of any big city in Japan, you’ll notice that many restaurants have intricate displays showcasing their best dishes. These food replicas (also known as “plastic food samples”) have become famous for their lifelike colors and shapes. In recent years, they’ve become a popular souvenir to pick up when visiting Japan.
This workshop, suitable for traveling families, couples, and solo travelers alike, offers a rare opportunity to design a unique souvenir while immersing yourself in this modern Japanese craft.
Upon arriving at the workshop venue, choose between a takoyaki (octopus balls) or sushi design for either a keychain or a magnet. Then, with the guidance of your savvy instructor, paint and decorate your creation in a casual yet fun setting.
This experience takes place near Namba Station in downtown Osaka, at one of the stores on Dougu Yasuji Shopping Street. This shopping arcade stretches 150 meters and is home to dozens of shops specializing in cooking utensils, cookware, and more. You can easily make time for a shopping spree before or after the workshop!
