Experience Details
Tour 2 unique shrines in Komaki, which were built between 500-1000 years ago. At these Shinto shrines, local people pray for safe childbirth, prosperity for their descendants, and a good harvest. The Tagata Jinja Shrine, in particular, is famous for the annual Honen Festival, a traditional fertility festival that is held every year on March 15th. Learn all about the backstory of these shrines, then pay your respects. This is a unique local Japanese experience that gives insights into Japanese culture and history. Then, have a special Nagoya Kochin chicken dining experience at a local restaurant. Nagoya Kochin (or “Cochin”) is not just any old chicken. It is the wagyu beef of the chicken world, acclaimed for its high-quality, rich taste, and flavor. Even their eggs are highly acclaimed, favored by chefs across Japan. Nagoya Kochin is one of Japan’s most famous chicken breeds, raised in the Nagoya area. So, what better place to try it than Nagoya, where you can be assured the meat is fresh, authentic, and high-quality. During this food tour, you will have lunch at a 40-year-old restaurant that serves fresh Nagoya Kochin hens, prepared just that morning.

Komaki City is located just north of Nagoya City in Aichi Prefecture. It is known as the home to Tagata Jinja Shrine, the infamous site of the Honen Festival, which is an annual fertility festival that features portable shrines topped with massive, phallic-shaped structures. Lovers of nature and traditional architecture should check out Mt. Komaki, which is topped by Komaki Castle, and offers stunning views of sakura (cherry blossom) trees blooming in spring. The Komaki City Historical Museum is a haven for history buffs, with suits of samurai armor and other well-preserved relics.
