Many people visiting Japan have always wanted to meet a geisha, but it can be on the expensive side. Afterall, geisha are trained artisans, skilled in the traditional Japanese arts of music, dance, poetry, and more. Working as highly trained entertainers and hosts, their place in Japanese culture is highly revered. The original kanji characters for the word “geisha” even stem from the words “art” and “worker” or “person.” For a more affordable geisha encounter, you can join this unique tasting experience where you can enjoy drinks with a geisha in a Tokyo teahouse!
Rather than a lavish feast, you can enjoy a pared-back geisha experience during this tasting event. This is a more informal setting where you can casually meet a geisha. Held in a cozy local Tokyo teahouse, for 90 minutes you can enjoy the company of an English-speaking geisha over a few drinks. During this experience, you can enjoy yourself, spending the time tasting a range of Japanese drinks. Drink purchases will be up to you, but your humble geisha (of course, beautifully dressed in a traditional Japanese kimono) will happily serve you and provide recommendations. She can even give suggestions on different styles of Japanese sake to try, as well as chat about Japanese culture or the life of a geisha.
As your geisha host for this experience speaks English, the language barrier will not hold you back from asking any questions about Japanese food or culture. She will entertain you and answer any questions you have, and provide a unique perspective from a skilled artisan. You can enjoy drinking and getting to know a geisha in this casual setting, and take plenty of photos together to capture the moment.
