The building that now houses our ticket office is one of the oldest canal related buildings in the area, dating to 1774 and is grade II listed. It was originally a warehouse for goods being transported on the canal, hence the large cranes outside- one facing the canal, the other facing our cobbled car park, formerly stables for horses towing the craft. Somewhere near the site of the wharf, although the exact location is now lost, was Winterwell Hall, a medieval manor whose remains were lost during the building of the canal basin.

Polish Airmen Memorial Site

During the Second World War, a Vickers Wellington bomber, piloted by members of the Free Polish forces, crashed on the canal bank just outside Skipton, killing all the crew. There is now a memorial to these airmen at the crash site, which was dedicated in 2007. Skipton Boat Trips, at the time called Pennine Boat Trips, had the honour of sailing visiting Polish dignitaries, alongside family of the airmen, to the site for the unveiling ceremony.

Snaygill Boats

The boat will sail past a winding hole in the part of Skipton known as Snaygill. Directly opposite the winding hole can be found the Craven Nursing Home. This is built on the site of Snaygill House, and was initially built as a public house, the Copper Beeches. Snaygill was formerly a separate town to Skipton. It was listed in the Domesday Book as being owned by William the Conqueror, formerly by the Earl Edwin. The land was shown to be six carucates in size and production- one Carucate is the land 8 oxen can plough in a single season, roughly 120 acres.

Best roast around

Absolutely brilliant roast dinner large Yorkshire beef sprouts cabbage carrots cauli roast tatties mash and thick tasty graveyard and served red hot . Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.i would highly recommend the food and cost .one of the best roasts iv had thank you

So very good

From the start the staff are so organised and friendly. We were a couple and were allocated our table . The service was outstanding and the Christmas lunch too. Very fresh food on hot plates we were impressed. There was background Christmas music playing and we were always being looked after and drinks to order were available. The trip was perfect and it was very pleasurable. Great staff

Mum & I took this three hour cruise today for Sunday lunch. It was absolutely delightful! Staff were so friendly and helpful with mum who doesn’t walk well. Roast beef dinner was hot and tasty & the lemony cheesecake pud was delicious 😋 drinks are very reasonably priced too for a captive audience. Would 100% recommend this peaceful and relaxing experience.

Great canal boat ride with a lovely roast dinner.

Lovely roast dinner on a canal boat. The boat is nice and comfortable. Food is served quickly and tastes delicious. Drinks are offered several times throughout the journey with a good option of alcohol and non-alcoholic options. There is a toilet on board as well. Service was great so I would defo recommend doing this. Also good music playing throughout the journey.

Great way to spend 3 hours

We had a roast dinner cruise bought for us, so we had a weekend break, culminating in the cruise. This was lovely as it wasn't overcrowded. We had a cruise up the canal before dinner was served. It was a standard roast meat with roast potatoes, peas snd carrots. Before the dessert was served we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee, which sounded as though it was included, but we were charged for it, although it was reasonably priced.
