What You’ll Experience

1

Villa Comunale Harbor View

Begin at the Villa Comunale Ignazio Scaturro, a historic garden located in Piazza Saverio Friscia and open since 1880. Walk along geometric avenues and shaded paths, observing pines, ficus trees and palms that characterise the park. Then reach the Belvedere, a panoramic terrace expanded in the 1930s, from which you will have views of Sciacca's port on one side and the Thermal Park on the other. During the stop the guide will explain the history of the garden and the monuments present, including those dedicated to Saverio Friscia. You will be able to pause by the pond and the park benches. The visit will allow you to become familiar with one of the most important green spaces in the centre and to gain an initial overview of Sciacca's position in relation to the sea and the surrounding territory. The path inside the villa is flat and suited to a calm pace.

Cortile Carini

Visit Cortile Carini, an open-air passageway located in the historic centre of Sciacca and transformed into an artistic installation by the artist Giulio Lo Rubbio, know as Lulo. Walk along the alley observing the mosaics made from recylced materials, broken ceramics, coloured glass and stones collected from nearby beaches. Every wall and step forms part of a continuous intervention that combines elements of traditional Sicilian ceramics with salvaged materials. The guide will explain how the project began and which techniques were used. The courtyard is set slightly apart from the main streets and offers a moment of pause in a contained space. The visit will allow you to discover a contemporary example of urban regeneration through art and to observe at close range a handcrafted work created entirely by hand. The route is short and fits naturally into the walk through the historic centre.

Corso Vittorio Emanuele

Explore the Sailors' Quarter, a historic district of Sciacca that descends from Corso Vittorio Emanuele toward the seafront. Walk among narrow alleys of Arab origin, staircases and courtyards that characterise the quarter inhabited for centuries by fishing families. Admire the restored façades, the stone paving and the zigzag staircases that connect the different levels of hillside. The guide will illustrate the history of the quarter and its link with the fishing activity still present in the port below. From certain points you will have direct views of the sea and the coloured houses facing the harbour. The route includes some changes in level but remains accessible at a slow pace. The visit will allow you to understand the urban organisation of the oldest part of Sciacca and the direct relationship between the inhabited centre and the sea.

Ceramiche Artistiche Nino Cascio - Sciacca

Immerse yourself in an authentic artistic ceramic workshop, one of the most rooted traditions of Sciacca. Step into the working space of a local artisan and observe the tools used: clay, pigments, pottery wheels and kilns. The guide and the artisan will illustrate the main stages of the process, from modelling to firing, and will show you both finished pieces and works in progress. You will be able to see at close range the traditional techniques and stylistic variations typical of local production. This visit allows you to learn about a craft activity still active in the town and to observe the production process directly. At the end of the leg you will continue the walking route toward the subsequent stops in the historic centre.

Basilica Maria Santissima del Soccorso

Admire the Basilica of Maria Santissima del Soccorso, known as the Mother Church of Sciacca. The building, founded in the 12th century and expanded over the following centuries, presents three apses of Arab-Norman origin integrated with Renaissance and Baroque elements. Inside you will observe the marble statue of Maria Santissima del Soccorso, patron saint of the town, and the 19th-century stuccowork decorations. The guide will illustrate the construction phases of the church and the significance of the cult of the Madonna del Soccorso for the local community. The visit takes place in an orderly manner, respecting any ongoing liturgical services. This stop will allow you to become familiar with the most important religious building in Sciacca and to appreciate the blend of architectural styles that characterise many monuments of western Sicily.

MUSEO DIOCESANO "MUDIA"

Step inside the MUDIA, the Diocesan Museum of Sciacca, located next to the Mother Church. Inside you will find a collection of paintings, sculptures, coral works, liturgical objects and artworks by the painter Mariano Rossi. The collection documents the town's bond with the Madonna del Soccorso and the religious artistic production developed over the centuries. The guide will illustrate the main pieces and the historical context of the works. The arrangement is compact and allows a clear and orderly route. The visit to the museum will offer a deeper look into the artistic and devotional heritage of Sciacca, integrating what has already been observed in the Mother Church. The time spent inside is calibrated so as not to weigh on the overall pace of the tour.

Oro di Sciacca by Conti Creazioni s.a.s.

Uncover the secrets of a coral-working craft studio, focusing on a material historically linked to the identity of Sciacca. You will experience an active atelier where artisans work daily, allowing you to observe the stages of transformation of raw coral into finished jewellery and objects, from cutting techniques to polishing. The guide and the artisans will explain the importance of coral in local tradition and the specific features of the crafting techniques. You will be able to see finished pieces and, in some cases, touch the raw material. The visit takes place in a real working environment and has a limited duration. This stop will allow you to learn about another craft excellence of the town and to observe a production process still practised today.

Piazza Angelo Scandaliato

Admire Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, the main square of Sciacca. The square overlooks the harbour on the Mediterranean and offers a wide view of the coastline. It is surrounded by historic buildings, cafès and palm trees, and represents the central meeting point of the town. The guide will illustrate the function of the square in daily life and in the cultural events that take place there during the year. From here you will have an overall view of the port and the seafront. The final stop will allow you to orient yourself in relation to the route just completed and to observe the direct relationship between the historic centre and the sea. Le Antiche Macine

Live the story of Sicilian extra virgin olive oil in the countryside of Sciacca with a traditional estate. You will be welcomed by the owners themselves, a passionate couple who produce their own extra virgin olive oil and turn every encounter into a genuine conversation filled with family stories, traditional gestures, and a deep connection to the land. You will walk among centuries-old olive trees and the seasonal vegetable garden while listening to the story of their farm and four indigenous Sicilian varieties like Tonda Iblea, Nocellara del Belice, Biancolilla and Cerasuola, which give life to three distinct oils, rich in polyphenols and full of character. You will learn to recognize the differences in aroma, bitterness, and pungency through a technical tasting guided by the producers, ending with a light lunch prepared with local ingredients.
