Restaurant Details
Just east of scenic Lake Kagauchi and a fifteen-minute drive from the landmark, Grill USHIOKU is a beloved steakhouse renowned for its delectable Koshu wagyu sourced from the wine-producing region of Yamanashi. Founded in 1927 by a respected local butcher shop, the restaurant draws on its decades of expertise to offer only the most tender, flavorful cuts of beef.
While popular in the local Yamanashi area, Koshu beef has yet to hit the mainstream like other more nationally recognized premium cuts of wagyu like Kobe beef and Masutaka beef. Grill USHIOKU allows guests the chance to savor A5 cuts of this regional favorite. A standout example is the wine beef steak, where the cattle are fed a diet of polyphenol-rich grape pomace from six months old, resulting in meat with a milder, more aromatic flavor.
Grill USHIOKU takes a road-less-traveled path when getting its beef. Instead of sourcing their meat from wholesalers, the meat experts attend local meat auctions directly and buy whole cows, allowing them to offer an expansive variety of Koshu beef cuts. While the ever-popular sirloin and ribeye are featured on the menu, more uncommon but equally delicious cuts like kuri (chuck eye) and sune (shank) are also available.
Each meal comes with side dishes that take full advantage of the region's fresh produce. The drink menu features a range of local wines and beers, a delightful pairing with a juicy steak, and a locally sourced gelato puts the finishing touches on a decadent meal.
Grill USHIOKU is near several popular destinations, such as the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum, the Kawaguchiko Museum of Art and, of course, Lake Kawaguchi. Thus, it is a great spot to stop for a meal before exploring the area around the lake and soaking in the views of Mt. Fuji.
