Hekkelun

Hekkelun, a local-loved coffee shop in Toranomon, has been serving siphon-brewed coffee and its signature Jumbo Purin for 50 years — long before its social media fame.
Restaurant Details
Anyone who’s browsed the internet might not recognize this unassuming kissaten on a Toranomon corner, but they’ll know the owner the moment they step inside.
Hekkelun is home to the legendary Jumbo Purin, a mug-sized custard treat best enjoyed with a cup of bold, siphon-brewed coffee. Each pudding is chilled in its mold until the moment of serving, when the owner masterfully unmolds it with a flick of the wrist — a signature move that regulars have come to know and, more recently, travelers compete to witness.
The recipe has remained unchanged for over 50 years: a silky steamed custard crowned with house-made bitter caramel. No toppings, no frills—just pure, nostalgic perfection. Beyond the pudding, the menu offers classic kissaten staples like egg salad and ham sandwiches, rich milkshakes and ice cream floats with coffee or orange juice.
Hekkelun has no website and doesn’t take reservations, so arriving early is a must. Now that it’s a viral sensation, just be mindful — the owner isn’t a fan of cameras.
