One of the top dining destinations in Tokyo’s skyscraper district, Rokkasen keeps diners fully sated with its distinct omotenashi hospitality and elegant take on the yakiniku buffet.

Restaurant Details

It’s often that buffet-style dining conjures an image of frantic diners rushing for food in a messy culinary bloodbath, far removed from the refined convention of high-end dining.

Arguably one of the best restaurants in Shinjuku, the internationally acclaimed Rokkasen, is redefining such a notion.

It’s all thanks to the warm service and laser-sharp focus of owner Shinchiro Sakado, who’s changing the tide by bringing an elegant take on all-you-can-eat when he set up his first Rokkasen flagship in Shinjuku. He’s injecting the restaurant with a distinct omotenashi spirit, Japan’s hallmark approach to hospitality. Their backs straight, kimono-clad waitress or hakama-dressed male staff ushers guests into the traditionally inspired dining space. Whenever Shinchiro is around, he welcomes guests with a smile. Dining, though technically more flexible than tasting courses, remains warmly guided by the waitstaff.

Rokkasen’s success largely stems from its ability to offer a quality “tabehodai” dining experience without compromising on excellence. Guests can select from a variety of courses depending on their budget, with options that include premium wagyu cuts like Matsuzaka sirloin and Kobe ribs, as well as seafood delicacies like crab and lobster. These ingredients can be prepared in various styles, from classic yakiniku grilling to warming shabu-shabu and sukiyaki.

All the trimmings are refined but not stiff. This is partly due to the spacious layout, with 20 tables and private rooms thoughtfully placed to accommodate large groups — and larger conversations. With an English menu and English-speaking servers, Rokkasen has become a host to guests from around the world.
