Experience Details

Sofu restaurant's specialties are threefold: teppanyaki (iron-grill dishes), shabu shabu hotpot, and sukiyaki (a stew with thin slices of beef and vegetables on a cast-iron pan). It is no wonder, then, why many flock to Sofu for a hearty post-ski meal, considering also its convenient location at Karuizawa Prince Hotel, only a short walk from Karuizawa Station. But even outside of the winter months, Sofu is a beloved destination restaurant, celebrated for its utmost quality, service and care in every dish year-round.


Its organic interiors combine wood and stone, with delicate Japanese cedar leaf motifs and vistas of lush forests outside providing a touch of green. The ethereal feeling one gets with the entire scene may be what inspired the restaurant's name, which translates to "a refreshing breeze," aptly capturing its essence. While the ambience sets the mood, the irresistible smell of rich beef stew will remind you what brought you here in the first place: the food.


This decadent sukiyaki course includes abundant fresh produce, premium Shinshu wagyu beef, Koshihikari rice, a noodle dish (Shinshu soba or udon) and a seasonal confectionery. Glass of champagne in hand, lose yourself in the peaceful views of the forest outside and savor a taste of Nagano in every bite.
