Akita Banya Sakaba is a charming izakaya located on the third floor of a building right in front of Akita Station, making it easily accessible for both locals and visitors. This establishment offers a delightful blend of izakaya (Japanese style tavern) and regional cuisine, with a special focus on Kiritanpo, a traditional dish from the Akita region. The restaurant's interior is designed to evoke the atmosphere of a traditional robatayaki izakaya, with a counter surrounding a central irori (hearth). This setup not only provides a warm and inviting ambiance but also allows diners to enjoy the sight and aroma of dishes being grilled over the hearth. The slightly dim lighting and the scent of wood further enhance the rustic charm, reminiscent of a cozy fisherman's hut. Akita Banya Sakaba is renowned for its diverse menu, featuring assorted sashimi platters, grilled rice balls with miso, and unique dishes like shotturu yakitori and shotturu kara-age. A highlight for many guests is the fisherman's meal sashimi, which includes thick slices of fresh fish. In addition to its culinary offerings, the restaurant hosts a Namahage show, a cultural event that starts at either 7 PM or 8 PM, providing an entertaining glimpse into local traditions. The establishment also boasts a wide selection of local Akita sake brands, including Aramasa, Kariho, and Mansaku no Hana, perfect for pairing with the flavorful dishes. The staff at Akita Banya Sakaba are known for their helpfulness, especially in guiding guests through the menu options. The restaurant also offers seating in a tatami room with partitions, ensuring a degree of privacy for diners seeking a more intimate experience.
