Restaurant Details

The authentic yet relaxing bar tucked deep in the backstreets of Kyoto is an exact reflection of the owner-bartender's character, who also happens to be one of the best bartenders in the whole country. Being in business over ninety years and running, Rocking Chair is where dozens of creative mixes have been born.

Kenji Tsubokura's vividly flavorful cocktails are the highlight of this legendary space. Some of them involve seasonal fruits, but you wouldn't know which since this bar has no menu. Instead, guests are encouraged to speak to the bartender to discuss their likes and dislikes, and a bespoke drink will be whipped up for them.

Your average, ordinary bar doesn’t offer personalized drinks, however Rocking Chair doesn't define itself as a high-class fancy one either. The balance is struck somewhere in between, with top-class service and presentation, but a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. You should definitely visit this casual-elegant fusion bar when you find yourself with a free evening in Kyoto.
