Experience the authentic taste of Kansai-style unagi at Honke Shibato, where tradition meets flavor in the heart of Osaka's business district.

Restaurant Details

Honke Shibato, nestled in the bustling business district of Osaka, offers a unique culinary experience specializing in unagi (eel) dishes. Located at 2-chōme-5-2 Kōraibashi, Chuo Ward, this historic restaurant has been serving its delicacies since the Kyoho era (1716-1736), now under the stewardship of its 15th generation. The restaurant is easily accessible from the Yodoyabashi and Kitahama areas, making it a convenient spot for both locals and visitors.

The menu at Honke Shibato is a celebration of traditional Kansai cooking techniques, particularly the Kamigata Unagi style. This method involves grilling the eel directly over an open flame, resulting in a fragrant and crispy finish. Signature dishes include the Osaka Mamushi, a delightful eel rice box, and hitsumabushi, which comes with instructions in both Japanese and English on how to enjoy it. Other offerings include grilled eel (Shirayaki), eel omelette (Umaki), and liver soup, all accompanied by pickles.

The ambiance of Honke Shibato is steeped in tradition, with a quiet, small setting that reflects its long history. The restaurant is housed in a historic building, adding to its charm and appeal. Guests are greeted warmly by the proprietress, ensuring a welcoming and attentive service experience.

Whether you're a local or a traveler exploring Osaka, a visit to Honke Shibato promises a memorable dining experience, steeped in history and rich flavors.
