French food fans have no shortage of options when visiting Japan. One spot on their essential itinerary is Hotel de Yoshino in Wakayama. The eponymous chef was one of the pioneers of French gastronomy in Japan.
His hotel restaurant is now run by Tejima-san, who serves up three set course menus, all based on a philosophy celebrating the earth of the Wakayama region and the produce it provides: local fish, fruit, vegetables, and meat.
The large 12th floor windows offer a beautiful view over the city and hills beyond, so diners can cast their eyes towards the fields and forests that provided their food while they eat.
