Restaurant Details

Tucked away in a corner of Maruyama Koen Park is this secret little garden with a humble Japanese tea house, surrounded by elegant flowers. Saka Maruyama encompasses the truest Zen atmosphere with its simplistic style of earthen walls, paper windows, and bamboo furnishings. While there is a wide range of drinks offered, the specialty is their tea accompanied by a wonderful selection of traditional sweets. Saka Maruyama is a tranquil space where every step in the process of tea-drinking is to be appreciated — from the time-consuming preparation to the small sips of the finished product. The matcha powdered green tea is highly recommended by the host as well as the fukamushi sencha, made using tea leaves rather than powder. This special blend can only be found at this particular tea house. Try a sweet goma dofu on the side, or a houshoumaki, which is a kind of black bean pastry. Tea time at Saka Maruyama runs at a far slower pace than everyday life — a chance to enjoy the authentic tea culture of Japan in total relaxation.
