Experience Details
Step on board an elegant yakatabune for a private dinner cruise and autumnal moon-viewing experience in Arashiyama, Kyoto. This exclusive opportunity is bursting with Japanese culture and has limited availability across 3 days during Japan’s Tsukimi Festival: 29 September-1 October. You’ll board a traditional yakatabune (Japanese ‘pleasure’ boat), enjoy the Arashiyama river scenery, indulge in an elegant dinner by Kyoto Kitcho, participate in Tsukimi (moon-viewing) festivities, and enjoy traditional entertainment.
Arashiyama is renowned for its ethereal beauty, but this picturesque destination truly comes alive during the Tsukimi (moon-viewing) season. Step back in time as you board the yakatabune alongside an expert guide dressed in traditional Japanese garments. These elegant vessels have a history spanning centuries and were once favored by nobility for their luxurious design and impeccable service. You’ll enjoy the Arashiyama river scenery while enjoying Heian period entertainment including traditional Japanese performing arts and shinobue (Japanese flute) performances by esteemed Japanese artists, Awa (29 September) and Kazuya Sato (30 September & 1 October).
Additionally, you’ll enjoy a luxurious kaiseki dinner by Kyoto Kitcho—founded by Yuki Teiichi and one of the area’s most sought-after dining establishments. In 1991, Kitcho established its main branch in Arashiyama, Kyoto–where the restaurant gained a reputation, which persists today, as one of Japan's most beautiful and elegant dining experiences.
The Tsukimi (中秋名月) Festival period is one of the most enchanting times to visit Arashiyama and broader Kyoto. This unique experience showcases traditional Japanese culture and valued traditions, making it essential for those seeking a deeper connection with Japan.
