Asakusa is a captivating neighborhood where tradition and modernity unite. Take a walking tour of this historic area in Tokyo alongside a host who’s brimming with knowledge to share with you! You’ll tour Asakusa on foot, visit popular landmarks like Sensoji Temple, stroll down the ever-popular Nakamise Dori Shopping Street, and try traditional Japanese snacks and street food. Asakusa is one of Tokyo’s most prominent historic neighborhoods and tourist destinations. And while it can get a little crowded, this should not deter you from visiting this special spot in the heart of town. In our humble opinion, the people make the place and contribute to the lively atmosphere! This tour will take you on a half-day walking tour of Asakusa alongside an expert guide with extensive area knowledge. All the stops during this experience are worth a mention, but Sensoji Temple deserves a feature of its own! Sensoji Temple is the shining star of Asakusa. It’s the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo–from 645 AD–and is a monument of history and spirituality in Japan. Legend has it that in 628, two brothers fishing in the nearby Sumida River discovered a tiny golden statue of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. Word of this miraculous find quickly spread, and a temple was built to enshrine the statue, giving birth to Sensoji Temple. Next stop is Nakamise Dori, a spirited shopping street that has been attracting pilgrims and tourists for centuries. As you stroll along, keep an eye out for Rokku, Asakusa's entertainment district, renowned for its theaters and vibrant nightlife. As you roam the streets of this historic township, you’ll stop to savor famous street foods and sweets like taiyaki, jumbo melon pan, fried manju, ningyo yaki, and more.
