A cooking class worth being stranded for
While my family stayed on Ustica (an island 20 ish miles away) my son and I took the ferry to Palermo to learn how to make Sicilian pasta and cannoli.
Rosa Maria is clearly an accomplished cook, which we learned runs in her family. She is also a talented teacher. When we couldn't quite the the hang of shaping the pasta without crushing it, she was patient but clear in her instructions so I know what to practice when I get home. We came for the food and left as friends
What a wonderful time we had with Cesarine Antonella and her family. Together we prepared bruschetta, traditional Sicilian caponata di melenzane, pasta, ragu salsiccia, and Tiramisu.
The food was wonderful. The hands on learning was great. But the friendship and fellowship of our hosts will leave us with lifelong memories.
