Experience Details
Flavorful, soft, and with the perfect grill, yakitori chicken skewers can be glazed in tare sauce or seasoned with a pinch of salt. You can find them in most izakaya bars, but ubiquitous as they may be, preparing them well is no easy stunt, requiring a certain amount of skill and a lot of chicken knowledge.
Indeed, a saying goes that learning to skewer yakitori takes three years, and mastering how to grill them takes a lifetime. Luckily, this class is here to help you start. An instructor who has dedicated their life to the craft will teach you how to prepare authentic skewers from start to finish, from chopping the different chicken parts to assembling the pieces onto the skewers and seasoning them to ensure the signature burst of flavor in each bite.
Additionally, you'll get to see how the pros do it by watching your instructor cook assorted skewers with side dishes for you to enjoy. Be sure to work up an appetite — you'll feast on delicious chicken masterfully served in different ways!
Itinerary:
-Introduction: Greet your instructor, change into an apron, and learn an overview of yakitori making (20 minutes)
-The instructor will break down the chicken into pieces while explaining the procedure (please note that the chicken might be prepared in advance on certain days) (10 minutes)
-Prepare the chicken and assemble four skewers following the instructor’s demonstration (40 minutes)
-Grill the skewers, two with tare sauce and two with salt, and eat them before they get cold! (40 minutes)
-Your instructor will prepare five skewers (the exact ingredients vary depending on the day, but are typically thigh, chicken wings, neck, chicken and scallion, and innards), a grilled rice ball, and soup with chicken stock. Enjoy their masterful dishes and see how yours compare! (40 minutes)
-After eating, enjoy a pleasant chat with your instructor, receive a certificate, and take photos (30 minutes)
