Witness the pristine beaches of Ahangama and embark on a culinary journey full of natural beauty, traditional methods of cooking, and the indigenous lifestyle of a villager in Ahangama. You will participate in an exciting ‘Stilt Fishing’ adventure where you can witness a group of experienced fishermen engaging in the age-old tradition, after learning the ropes, you will have the option of stilt fishing yourself and catching a few different types of fish in the area, which will be consumed on the same day for lunch or dinner. You will also visit a nearby village where the hosts will give you a cultural experience about the way of life in the villages of Ahangama. A plethora of unique Sri Lankan recipes made with fresh, heirloom ingredients will be prepared before your eyes along with the stilt fishing catch of the day. All ingredients are organic, healthy, and delicious. The villagers in the area will also demonstrate their various talents and skills which they have honed such as finger weaving and artisan household item making such as rugs, table mats, and chairs. Truly immerse yourself in the intricate and indigenous lifestyle of the traditional Sri Lankan.

WATCHING and learning a new way of fishing , Watching a new way of fishing is truly an eye opening experience that starts with a quiet observation of the water’s shifting surface. A cultural experience for all the senses

We not only climbed on the stilts for the photo, but also fished for a while. The five fish caught (and some more from the market) were traditionally prepared for us by a very nice local family and we learned a lot about Sri Lankan culture. Stilt Fishing in Ahangama

I did not go with Ceylon Food Trials but with On the Go Tours. Fishermen use stilts to catch a fish and is an old tradition practiced by fisherman in Ahangama and Kathaluwa Sri Lanka.

I saw these stilt fishing in the water at the beach at Ahangama just out of Galle. This is mind boggling and an old tradition practiced by about 500 families in Galle, specially around he towns of Ahangama and Kathaluwa
