Experience Details

Discover the elegance of Japanese tradition in a serene Zen experience at Koboji Temple.

Wearing a rare Oshima Tsumugi haori, you will enjoy freshly whisked matcha and seasonal wagashi prepared by a kimono-clad master teishu. The ceremony takes place in a 24-mat tatami room, where time slows, and every gesture reflects centuries of tradition. Guided explanations are provided in both English and Japanese.

The Japanese tea ceremony, once cherished by samurai as the ultimate form of refinement, embodies harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility, the essence of Zen. Experienced tea masters guide participants through the utensils, etiquette, and mindfulness that define this sacred ritual. Private and semi-private sessions are available for a quiet, personal experience.

Oshima Tsumugi is a world-renowned silk from Amami Oshima, known for its mud-dyeing technique, intricate kasuri patterns, and light, supple texture. Wearing this exquisite fabric adds elegance and makes for memorable photos, enhancing the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The experience lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes and is suitable for two to twenty participants. Guided explanations are available in Japanese and English. Single participant reservations may be subject to cancellation.
