Experience Details

Discover the charm of Japan through this hands-on Japanese sweets workshop in Tokyo! In this unique cultural experience, you will learn how to make kawaii mochi (wagashi) such as skewered dango with cute animal motifs, and create colorful matcha drinks and hojicha arrangement teas featuring Japan. Perfect for travelers who want to enjoy both traditional culture and Instagrammable fun in Tokyo.

Your host, Emi, is a certified tea expert with a unique background. After working as a flight attendant, she pursued her passion for tea and herbs through extensive study, and now runs her own tea classes in Tokyo. With her love for tea and creativity, Emi developed her own trademarked “Designtea” style of tea drinks, based on the concept of “delicious to see and taste.” Her qualifications include Japan Tea Association Tea Instructor and Japan Medical Herbs Association Herbal Therapist.

In this workshop, you will first make skewered dango dumplings with kawaii animal motifs. Usually, you can choose from three types: rabbit, chick, or Shiba Inu. If you have other preferences, please let us know when booking. Next, you will create two colorful tea-based drinks, including matcha drinks and hojicha arrangement teas, learning about flavor and color combinations so you can recreate them at home. Finally, enjoy tasting your handmade wagashi together with your beautifully presented tea creations.

The class starts with a quick intro before rolling into the main event: making two irresistibly kawaii dango skewers (seriously, they’re Instagram gold). Then it’s tea time, as you mix up two gorgeous drinks: chilled sakura and warm, cozy momiji. After tasting your creations (arguably the best part), you’ll head home with recipes and bragging rights. Feeling extra fancy? Add the optional Blue Sky and Sea drink, a cool, colorful drink, that is totally worth it.
