Restaurant Details

While easily overlooked for its larger, flashier neighbors, Sasazuka retains the feeling of a close-knit community. It’s something Daishogun Sasazuka, a yakiniku brand operating for around 50 years, embraces wholeheartedly when it lodges itself amid the area’s Showa-era buildings and tiny restaurants.

Now a national darling attracting locals and travelers for its casual, cozy atmosphere and affordable premium fare, Daishogun manages several restaurants in the Kanto and Chubu regions and maintains high standards for quality and fresh cuts. The first can be credited to the founder’s vision; the latter is thanks to their “meat artisans,” who specialize in picking Japanese Black wagyu (kuroge wagyu) and other domestic meats to ensure freshness and flavor.

Entrees have a winning way among less carnivorous eaters, with notable options like kimchi platters and salads. But the true magic begins as the tableside grill heats up. Each bite of Matsusaka or Miyazaki beef is a celebration — seared to perfection, paired with Daishogun Sasazuka’s signature sauces. The aburi beef sushi, topped with premium caviar, is an unmissable indulgence, and so is the wagyu sukiyaki, where the top-shelf meat is simmered in slightly sweet soy-based warishita sauce.

For dessert, there’s only one option, but it’s unforgettable: the restaurant’s silky, reputation-defining matcha pudding.
